Carving Patterns and How To Carve Wood Tutorials Galore!!!

I'm working on some carved ornaments in my spare time this week but I haven't gotten anything completed to show you just yet. I'm carving up some of the wood tool handles that I bought at the Awesome Flea Market and they're turning out really nice.

In the meantime, I thought I would show you some of the best links I've found for carving patterns, how-to carve wood tutorials, and how-to carve Santa faces.

This first link (from Found Wood Carvings) is one of my absolute favorites. I don't use his method all of the time but it is one of the best how-to's out there. This guy knows his stuff and his Santa faces are some of the best in the world.

Check out his Santa face carving tutorial at Found Wood Carvings - Excellent!!!

And here are a bunch of links I've found for free woodcarving patterns and tutorials.

Have fun with these:

I should have a few of my carved Santa ornaments to show you this week so I hope you come back soon.  :)

Only a Woodcarver...

Only a woodcarver would see this at a flea market, while on vacation, and think...

JACKPOT!!!

Yep, this is one of the items I found at the Awesome Flea Market in Shepherdsville, KY!

How exciting!!!  I couldn't believe my luck!!!

But wait...

I don't even have a cat!

OK.

Just so you don't think I've totally lost it...

Let's open the lid and have a peek...

TADA!!!

Ahhh, who's the crazy one now?

I got all of this loveliness for 3 bucks!  Yep, all of these wooden tool handles for that price!

If you are a woodcarver, you know you would have bought them!

Too late - I beat ya to them!  :)  Who could pass up a sweet deal like that?

So, you ask, what will I do with all of these wood handles?

Well, I've already started...

LOL, he looks lonely in there, doesn't he?  I'll get some friends carved up for him and take more pics to show you soon.

Do you ever make purchases like this that make your family and friends wonder about your sanity???  :)

Have a great evening everyone!  ~ Debra

Some of My Vintage Linens

So, I've been hand-washing, line drying and ironing some vintage linens to get them ready for my shop this week.

If I had room for them, I wouldn't part with any of them.  But if I kept every linen I love, I'd have to buy a much, MUCH bigger house! :)

Here's a couple of the linens I listed today.  This set of vintage embroidered tea towels is just adorable!

And I think this pair of vintage pillowcases is so pretty with "His" and "Hers" done in cross-stitch and French knots.

Want to See My Santa Carvings in Their New Home???

I've been working for the past three days moving all of my hand carved Santa's to their new home.  They really LOVE their new digs!  :)

You can see them all RIGHT HERE in my ETSY SHOP.

Aren't they cute?  And they all look so happy!

I've also been moving all of my vintage items to my Etsy shop and when I'm done moving them, I have a mountain of new items to add.  Whew, I'm tired just thinking about it all.  :)

I have some great ideas for some new ornaments so I hope you come back often to see what I'm up to.

Have a great weekend everyone!  ~ Debra

My favorite way to carve wood...

I love all kinds of carving.

If I see something I like in Woodcarving Illustrated or in another carving magazine, I'll give the pattern a whirl.  I usually change it up quite a bit but sometimes they turn out pretty close to the original pattern.

But, I have to admit, my favorite way to carve is to just pick up a piece of wood and start carving.  Sometimes I'll doodle a little on the wood and sometimes I'll just carve away without really knowing where the carving will take me.

That's how I carved this guy:

I picked up a scrap of basswood and started carving one morning.  This is how he turned out.  I think he's a cutie!  :)

You can see more pics of him in my Etsy shop here.

Hope you like him!  ~ Debra

Some New Santa Carvings

Do you remember these guys?

Well, they are now finished and in my Etsy shop.

I really like the way they turned out, what do you think?

If you noticed one is missing, I kept it for my tree this year.  :)

Have a great evening!  ~  Debra

Whew! I'm back....

So much has happened since I last blogged so I'll try to keep this short - I promise I'll try.  :)

The day before we left for vacation, we found a GREAT little property for sale in Southern Missouri.  The price was fantastic!!!  Eight acres, a home, a huge garage, and several outbuildings.  So, what could we do?  We put a contract on it the day before we left for our Smoky Mountains vacation and the sellers accepted!  Yay!!!

But, back to our vacation, it was a blast!  How could it NOT be fun when we were surrounded by this:

We were in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, Tennessee area and we had a blast!  There are so many things to do and see there that I highly recommend it for a vacation.

The big guy (my hubby) was ecstatic to find that the week we were there was also the week of the humongous car show they hold every year! Miles and miles of antique and classic cars lined the main street!  He was in heaven!

We also went to a couple of dinner shows and lots and lots of great touristy spots.

And oh, the wine!!!  We took the wine tour of 5 different wineries and found (and bought) some great wines for Christmas gifts.  The Tennessee wines are so delicious!!!  Well, all except one.  There is a wine that all of the wineries offer that I really did not like.  I think it was made from a local grape called muscadine?  Maybe it's an acquired taste?  The rest of the wines were excellent!

When we got home, we closed on the property we found and have been working to clean it up, cute it up, and make it our own (just what I need - another house to clean, lol).  We're just using it as a weekend cabin for now, though.  It was such a good deal that we just couldn't pass it up.  Sometimes you just have to jump in with both feet.  It's smaller than our home, so it's a lot easier to clean, and it's cute as a bug!  Who knows, maybe we'll retire out there someday.  :)

So, that's the vacation update.

I have some big news that I'll post soon!

Have a great week everyone! ~ Debra
